Honolulu (AP) -- Hawaiian soverignty leader Dennis "Bumpy" Kanahele has won a legal round in state court.
Last October, Honolulu District Judge James Dannenburg found Kanahele guilty of driving without a valid driver's license.
On Wednesday, the state Supreme Court overturned the misdemeanor conviction.
Kanehele had originally been charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license.
The basis of the appeal was that the original charge was orally amended the day of the trial.
Even the state admitted the conviction couldn't stand because of the error.
